About Me

About Me

Challee Johnson is from Atlanta, Georgia, where she found she had a passion for working with children at an early age. After hearing of the field of Child Life, she entered into the Human Development and Family Studies- Child Life program at Auburn University. Challee completed her Child Life internship in Jacksonville, Florida where she completed rotations in the PICU/CICU/NICU, Same Day Surgery, and Neuroscience units and graduated with a B.S. from Auburn’s program in 2018. After graduation, Challee sat for the Child Life Certification exam and completed some post-graduate work at Auburn University, while being employed as a TA for Auburn University’s Early Learning Center. In 2019, Challee moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to begin her career as a Certified Child Life Specialist. Challee has worked as a specialist in the Outpatient Lab at Primary Children’s Hospital since September of 2019 and has thoroughly enjoyed her time there. Additionally, Challee has spent time working with patients in the outpatient diabetes clinic, is working to establish the hospital’s facility dog program, and has been featured on several of Primary Children’s closed-circuit television programs. Challee has grown and learned from her past experiences and is looking forward to developing more as a Certified Child Life Specialist.

Philosophy

As a Child Life Specialist, I will support the emotional well-being, psychological functioning, and physical health of the children I interact with through developmentally appropriate explanations and coping coaching. I will provide a relationship built on trust for children and families to express their feelings and concerns, but at the same time give opportunities for kids to be kids and take their mind off what’s going on through positivity, joy, laughter, and play. I will make every effort to comfort children and their families by inspiring hope, and hopefully make their stay more comfortable and easier for everyone involved. And most importantly, I will work tirelessly towards giving kids a voice and control over their hospital experience.
